A Practical Property Cleanout Checklist
Sort first. Dispose with confidence.
Protect important belongings
Before moving debris, gather paperwork, medications, valuables, and sentimental items. For estate or shared-property cleanouts, confirm who is authorized to make disposal decisions. Label items clearly to avoid accidental removal.
Separate four destinations
Create groups for keeping, donating, recycling, and approved disposal. Contact donation organizations before setting items aside because they may not accept damaged furniture. Separate electronics and household chemicals for appropriate local programs.
Load in manageable stages
Work room by room and clear paths as you go. Check special items with the rental team, and do not overload the container. Before pickup, walk the property to make sure the cleanup is complete and the approach is clear.
General planning guidance. Confirm current material rules, local requirements, and your agreed rental terms before beginning work.
